October 31, 2009 – 7:30 arrival, stories start at 8:30, s’mores around 10

For the third year in a row, we are going to celebrate Halloween in the woods, swapping ghost stories around the campfire.   We are especially looking forward to a special appearance by Bill Mayhew – ghost-teller extraordinaire. BYO blankets, chairs, food and drink (if you want more than s’mores and hot drinks). Wear warm clothes and closed shoes. $5 suggested donation.

Want to tell a story? Email Stephanie at stephanie@speakeasydc.org.

Directions to the site at Patuxent River Park:

From 495: Take Rte 4 East towards Upper Marlboro (PA Ave. extended) and follow the rest of the directions.

From DC: Take Pennsylvania Ave to MD Rte 4. Once you go under the beltway, go 8 more miles till it runs into Rte 301 South Take the ramp on the right to go 301 South. (you’ll see an equestrian center). Go about 3 miles on 301S. Take a LEFT At traffic light (bojangles on right) onto Croom Rd. (also rte. 382). Go about 2.5 miles and take a LEFT onto Croom Airport Rd.

The park entrance is a little misleading. The entrance to the park is marked with two signs. Ignore the one on the left. Follow the one on the right, straight ahead, to the GROUP CAMP AND PICNIC AREA.

Continue straight from this sign approximately 0.8 miles until you come to a “T” intersection. Do not turn, go straight into parking lot. This is the area where you will park. We highly recommend that you DO NOT DRIVE BEYOND THE GREEN GATE. If you choose to park beyond the green gate, we are not responsible if you get locked in!!!! Gather your belongings and walk toward the Group Camp and Picnic Area, to your right. It is only about a 5-10 minute walk. Follow the path to the end of the asphalt. In the area between the barn and the covered picnic area, you will see the restroom trailer. We recommend using the restroom before the event. Someone will be there to meet you near the bathroom and guide you to the site
