Monthly Open Mic Storytelling

About the Open Mic

The  open mic storytelling series takes place on the second Tuesday of every month  (as it has since 1997).  Each night 8-10 people from all walks of life take a stab at the night’s theme (see below). Currently, it takes place at Town Danceboutique at 2009 8thStreet, NW (at the corner of U Street).   Doors open at 6:30pm. Show goes from 8-10pm. $10 cover at the door. We welcome everyone to tell a story on the open mic. Please note that this is a storytelling stage — not a stage for stand-up comedy or poetry or improv or a reading. It is a stage exclusively for true stories with a narrative arc that are performed, not read. Watch the video below to get an idea of what to expect.

How to Sign up

Check out list of upcoming themes (below) and choose a theme that suits your story. Fill out  the online form in advance using the drop-down box to indicate the night you want to perform. You will have seven minutes to tell your story. We are strict about this, so don’t go over or you will be cut off. Also, you must tell a true story (again, it’s not a stage for stand-up, poetry, readings, fiction, or folktales) and you must incorporate the theme. You will be contacted 3-4 weeks before the specified show to arrange a  free (and mandatory) coaching session with our Education Director, Stephanie Garibaldi.  She can be reached at stephanie@garibaldi.com if you have any questions (Please do not use this address to sign up. This is only for questions.)
