Sunday, January 6, 2013 to GO TO SPEAKEASYDC’S TOP SHELF AT THE 9:30 CLUB. This show is going to be epic!
Tickets on sale now $20 http://www.930.com/event/
How are Top Shelf stories chosen?
STEP 1: Our sassy and smart faculty has spent hours and hours watching and scoring every story that was told on the SpeakeasyDC stage from November 2011 thru October 2012. This includes our monthly 2nd Tuesday series at Town, plus special shows like Boo, Bad Mommy Moments, and Sucker for Love. This adds up to about 150 stories.
STEP 2: Our fearless leader pulled all our scores together to come up with our semi-final nomination list of 24 stories.
STEP 3: We want to hear from you! So, you have until midnight on Sunday, November 11 to give us your two cents about our semi-final “long list” of 24 (See below for list and add your comments here or on Facebook)
STEP 4: The list of 24 will be narrowed down to a list of 16 and announced at the show on Nov 13 and online the next day.
STEP 5: A distinguished panel of judges (below) who have never seen these stories before nor met the storytellers, will watch the final 16 nominees and choose the eight stories that will be part of Top Shelf 2012. These will be announced before Thanksgiving.

Adam Stellato is the funniest! He is a great story-teller. I laughed so hard at his story, I think I might have lost a pound or two.
PLEASE send him to the finals!!!
Adam Stellato! “And number two, pizza is delicious.” Well said, sir.
I saw Adam Stellato’s presentation on how his relationship with food and with his mother interacted. It was great, reminded me of how, after I quit smoking, I avoided telling my Grandmother because it would validate all her comments.
Please pick Adam Stellato’s story….he is a truly gifted storyteller and would blow everyone away if he got to perform in the finals.
Voting for Adam Stellato — thanks!
Adam Stellato’s story about weight gain and loss is amazeballz! Belly laughs, empathetic angst, relatable mommy issues – this story stuck with me and I definitely repeated it at least a zillion times to a kajillion folks! He will rock it again no doubt!
John Tong. 15.
My vote goes to awwwwwwesome dad, Mike Kane and Dark Elevator!
Adam Stellato!!! In a world of flaccid iceberg lettuce, He is the cheese, bacon and cream sauce.
I attended 3 speakeasy events this past year, and the story I enjoyed most Elizabeth Kominski’s story about the hooker.
I loved Elizabeth’s hooker story. Fantastic story that allows us all to see that even good kids make choices that their parents would frown upon. In the end a lesson was learned….don’t trust the girl that leaves outside of a hotel for hours on end, she might be a hooker.
Adam told his story where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Beneath it all is his beautiful blend of personal truth and astute insight into a an often familiar universal onus of being human — one that far too often can be buried away. Clever, aspirational, with warmth and charm.
Adam Stellato, that is.
My favorite performance was the presentation by Elizabeth Coyle, # 10!
Adam Stellato for President! Oops! Someone already has that job! Honestly, Adam is one of the storytellers I know…this was before his Speakeasy performance! His weight loss story is something else! Certainly worthy of being in the top 16!!
Please pick Adam Stellato!
Adam Stellato’s story is amazing–funny, heartfelt, and thoroughly entertaining. Adam for the win!!!
the hooker story by Elizabeth C.
Jessi Baden-Campbell’s story (#13) from Bad Mommy Moments was so funny – I’ve been telling a poor imitation of it to anyone who will listen (and some who won’t) ever since I heard it!
I remember Adam Stellato’s story pretty vividly. He should definitely make it to the finals.
My <3 is with Adam Stellato!
